Enough Bitcoin And Everyone\'s Troubles Just Go Away

So your company gets hacked with ransomware and someone's demanding money to release your files and system, and you hire a data recovery firm to deal with the attack. And they free your files, and all is well, right? Maybe, but this ProPublica report alleges that the method the data recovery firms use to fix the problem, at least in the case of two firms, was to just pay the ransom, then charge the victims extra for the "service." Meanwhile, the money was going to Iranian accounts that may have funded terrorism. The companies deny that all they do is funnel money into the perpetrators' accounts, but the report alleges that this is the case and notes that there are really no other options unless the hackers use an old encryption process that's been decrypted. And if it's your data, paying the ransom may be your only choice. But should a firm proclaiming that it will fix your problem be taking money to do what your company could do without the extra fee?
